A Statement From Big Hearts For Big Kids

At 15 years old, Tenille started the first ever Big Hearts For Big Kids in 2010, after hearing about the number of kids her age, in her hometown, who were turning to the local youth shelter, The Sunrise House.

The day of the first event, the shelter director came to Tenille in tears, explaining that the shelter had to be shut down due to lack of funding. But the event continued, and that evening, raised over $30,000 and a momentum of community spirit that has made it possible for Big Hearts For Big Kids to substantially grow.

A year and a half after the first event in 2010, the Sunrise House was fully renovated, re-staffed, and re-opened, available for the youth in need in northern Alberta.

Since re-opening, The Sunrise House has served over 6,000 bed nights.

In 10 years of Big Hearts For Big Kids, thanks to every volunteer, committee member, sponsor, artist, and community member who believed in and attended the event we have raised over $2,000,000 for the Grande Prairie Youth Emergency Shelter Society.
