My name is Alison Pitcher and I am the past President of the Grande Prairie Youth Emergency Shelter Society that operates Sunrise House. I originally joined the Board in 2007 as a Director at large and became Chair of the Board in 2012.
I am originally from Newfoundland and moved to Grande Prairie in 2005, shortly after graduating from the University of Saint Mary’s in Halifax, Nova Scotia with a Bachelor Degree in English and Psychology. It was not long before this Organization found a very special place in my heart. Although I am employed as a sales and training professional, and have no formal education in the area of Social Work I have always been very passionate about being an active member of the communities in which I live and about working with youth that may not have been fortunate enough to grow up in a safe environment or with the same opportunities that were afforded to me.
The longer I work with Sunrise House the more mesmerized I become with how many other community members in Grande Prairie share my passion for helping youth and giving them hope where otherwise they may not have any. Sunrise House has a long history of serving our community and thanks to our many supporters, dedicated staff and passionate board members we continue to make a difference one youth at a time, and I couldn’t be more grateful to be a part of that. THANK YOU!!
