“I moved to Grande Prairie in 2012 to pursue a career with high-risk youth to gain meaningful experience to strengthen my application for my Masters in Counselling Psychology. As an elementary educator, I had a lot to learn about building strong relationships with marginalized teenagers who have had a difficult time trusting adults. I am passionate about advocating for our youth and ensuring that they get what they need to live successful and stable lives. I completed my master’s degree in December 2018 and currently work as a mental health counsellor for the Grande Prairie Public School Division. My employment at Sunrise House has fostered my professional growth and allowed me to work alongside of other agencies, in Grande Prairie, that offer supports to youth. The most rewarding part of working at Sunrise House is hearing updates from past clients who are still reaching out regardless of how long it’s been since they’ve stayed with us”.
