Hello my name is Calvin. I have been working with the homeless, addicted and marginalized community members for over 10 years. I studied Behavioral and Social Sciences at the University of British Columbia. I have worked outreach, case management, mental health and addictions, transitional housing as well as working over five years on the frontline of Canada’s poorest postal code. My family and I moved to Grande Prairie in 2021. When I was invited to work at Sunrise House I jumped at the opportunity to help society’s most vunerable….. our youth.
Often people think youth homelessness is about kids who don’t want to follow the rules at home, so they leave. But the biggest driver of homelessness is a breakdown of family. Here at Sunrise House I am glad to be a part of a team that makes a difference. Offering a safe place, a hot meal, connecting them to a local service, or simply being a sympathetic ear.
My goal at Sunrise House is to bring a non judgemental-empathetic attitude with every interaction. As well as to use my previous life experience and education to support not only those we serve but to our team at Sunrise House as well. I can honestly say that Sunrise House has some of the most passionate and dedicated team members I have ever worked along side. I am proud to be a part of such a giving organization.
