Why this matters

Youth homelessness is a pressing issue in Grande Prairie, with significant numbers of young individuals facing housing instability. In the 2018 Point in Time Count, 228 people were found to be experiencing homelessness—the highest count to date. Of these, 22% (approximately 50 individuals) were dependents and independent youth aged 13-24. Alarmingly, 56% of respondents indicated that they first experienced homelessness as a youth.

These statistics highlight the critical need for targeted interventions and support systems to prevent youth from becoming homeless and to assist those already affected. By focusing on early intervention, family support, and comprehensive services, Sunrise House aims to reduce these numbers and provide a pathway to stability for vulnerable youth in our community.
