Amanda Gear

Amanda grew up in an RCMP family, which meant moving around BC, Alberta, and Ontario before ultimately choosing Alberta as home. She has been in Grande Prairie for over ten years with her family, which includes her daughter and three cats. Growing up in different neighbourhoods and cities gave Amanda insight into the varying needs people have; she knew early on she would be in a helping profession to help people access those needs.
After traveling across Canada and Australia, and a long drawn-out University process, Amanda completed her Social Work Bachelor’s degree through the University of Calgary, graduating with distinction. She wanted to stay and work with youth in Grande Prairie because she saw the need. Before coming to Sunrise House, Amanda worked as an LGBTQ+ youth mentor, helping to support youth and their families. Amanda is very passionate about LGBTQ+ issues with youth and brings this skill and passion to Sunrise. She looks forward to creating fun, educational, and engaging programming at Sunrise House and supporting youth to meet their goals at Sunrise House and beyond.
